Scars of Wars on Children: Efforts Towards Healing the Hurt

Abstract : War often results in casualties far beyond the immediate and physical loss of life, bringing scores of devastations to those who survive the war and live to experience and be affected by the repercussions of war much after the wars are over. Although conflict and wars do not discriminate between genders, ethnicity, nationalities, races and age etc., children often are one of their worst affected sections. This study focuses on the whole gamut of devastations inflicted on the children in conflict and war zones across the globe who are left with lifelong scars. It is these scars of wars that the study profiles: psychological, sociological, physiological, educational, economic, emotional and health scars etc. Through these scars, the study unravels the pain and helplessness of children through the data made available by different global humanitarian agencies documenting the catastrophe. The study closes with a clear sense of calls to action to alleviate the most vulnerable of humans, the children, from the abyss of devastation to a promise of hope for a better future and a safer, saner world.
